Project Safety Specialist

Capstone Fire & Safety Management is now offering professional Project Safety Specialist to provide consultation and oversight to a variety of industry. Specifically, we focus on area and facility construction or maintenance projects for long and short duration assignments.

The Project Safety Specialist provides worksite observation and hazard assessment observing OSHA and other safety regulations to ensure safe workplace conditions and employee adherence to safe work practices. The Safety Specialist is expected to perform the following:

  • Provide regular walk-through inspections of the facility to ensure safe working conditions and work practices are being followed. Inspections should be documented using the ICS-214 Activity Log.
  • Report unsafe workplace conditions and safety violations to client contact and contractor supervision. (Imminent hazards must be addressed immediately in accordance with site policy and procedures.)
  • Work with client and contractors to mitigate unsafe conditions/practices and recommend corrective actions as appropriate.
  • Provide on the spot safety training/coaching as appropriate.
  • Participate in the daily project meeting and provide project safety status.
  • Participate in client safety meetings.
  • Participate in contractor safety meetings on an intermittent basis.

Steve is an industrial safety professional with over 20 years of experience in the utilities sector, and joined the Capstone team as the safety and compliance manager. Steve is a certified Occupational Health and Safety Technologist with the Board of Certified Safety Professionals and an OSHA Authorized General Industry Trainer. He has an Associate of Applied Science degree in Occupational Safety and Health, and has served as an industrial fire brigade member, confined space rescue technician, and emergency medical technician.
